JOB DESCRIPTION
Position Title: Worship and Discipleship Pastor
Supervisor: Senior Pastor
Principal Function: To model, serve, and lead the church in worship and discipleship.
Worship Leadership:
- Serve as a leader in blended style worship services, giving direction to the congregational singing, praise team vocalists, musicians, and audio/visual team.
- Plan church services in consultation with the senior pastor.
- Responsible for song lyrics in presentation software. Ensure lyrics are scripturally accurate.
- Oversee the adult choir for seasonal/special emphasis presentations.
- Responsible for church-owned musical instruments, audio/visual equipment, and broadcast/production systems used for church services.
- Supervise the work of paid music staff, volunteers, and guest musicians.
- Schedule and oversee vocalists, instrumentalists, audio/visual team, and seasonal choir.
- Maintain timely communication with ministerial staff, vocalists, musicians, audio/visual team, etc. regarding upcoming services and events.
- Coordinate the music program with the organizational calendar and emphasis of the church.
- Develop the annual worship ministry plan and budget.
- Continuously develop musical and worship-leading skills and knowledge.
Discipleship Leadership:
- Organize, coordinate, and evaluate total religious education.
- Lead in planning and scheduling events and activities related to the educational ministry.
- Guide and equip servant leaders for the educational ministry.
- Oversee curriculum for Sunday School and discipleship ministries.
- Grow disciples through new member classes and outreach.
Required Education:
• Bachelor’s degree in music or Seminary Degree in Music preferred but not required.
• Seminary degree in Theology, education or the equivalent of 4 to 10 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Qualifications/Skills:
- Evidence of a mature and clear Christian walk characterized by Paul in 1 Timothy 3 and Titus 1. Personal wisdom and sufficiency are grounded in Christ with a life submitted to God’s authority in all things. Can effectively lead others in prayer. Gives regularly and generously to the work of the church. Readily applies scripture to personal and professional situations. Can articulate Baptist theological understandings on a range of issues in agreement with the Baptist Faith and Message 2000.
- An attitude and communication style that reflects an understanding of servant leadership, with a teachable spirit.
- Ability to respond effectively to sensitive inquiries and maintain strict confidentiality.
- Excellent listening skills
- Strong knowledge and understanding of audio/visual equipment and its operation.
